Best Bets March 15

Midweek racing will be run at Sandown Hillside in Victoria, while Warwick Farm and Eagle Farm host their respective meetings in New South Wales and Queensland.

SANDOWN HILLSIDE.

Conditions: Good 4.

Rail Position: +13m.

Race Two Number Five, Fame.

The first of our best bets comes up early in the card in the form of Fame. The Peter Moody-trained galloper suffered narrow defeats at the hands of a host of talented horses last campaign. After running into Yaka Ishi first-up at Geelong, Fame ran second behind subsequent Flemington winner, High Approach, and potential staying star, Dunkel. The son of Manhattan Rain has been given a good grounding for this first-up run with a strong hit-out at the trials.

Race Six Number Three, Hasseltoff.

Confident Hasseltoff didn’t run the 2000m at Flemington last start and steps back to 1800m on Wednesday. Love the form this horse was showing before his latest start and comes into this race hard fit. Blake Shinn has been riding sensationally of late and goes aboard. Expect Hasseltoff to land midfield and be extremely hard to beat.

WARWICK FARM.

Conditions: Soft 7.

Rail Position: +3m.

Race Three Number Ten, La Pittrice.

Think this race sets up Nicely for La Pittrice following a brave debut. The Anthony Cummings-trained filly was caught three-wide without cover on debut, where she ran into the very smart Parisal. Parisal has subsequently franked those formlines and looks a genuine Group horse in the making. La Pittrice was caught wide throughout that debut and was only narrowly beaten by second and third, who are talented themselves. The daughter of Caravaggio has proven to get through wet ground at the trials and suspect the Soft 7 won’t be an issue.

Race Six Number Four, Demiana.

Loved Demiana’s return at Canterbury first-up where she just peaked late. James McDonald gave the Chris Waller-trained filly a great ride, presenting her at the turn, but she wasn’t able to reel in Ningaloo Star. Ningaloo Star has built a nice record herself and contested the Listed Canberra Guineas on Monday. Love the booking of Nash Rawiller and expecting her to be charging over the top of them late.
